THE LANTERN

"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, 'I am the Light of the world:
he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.'"
(John 8:12)
The daylight is fading away,
As the sun slowly disappears.
Darkness marks the end of the day,
Bringing with it my chilling fears!
I'm so afraid of the darkness,
And the evil it represents.
Panic comes with the blackness,
As I fear my own incompetence.
Sitting alone in my despair,
I try to keep my thoughts at bay -
Of enemies that lurk out there,
As the night slowly ebbs away!
Then my eyes beheld a lantern;
Delight and hope arose in me!
As I sat there watching it burn,
I basked in its security.
The darkness I'll fear no more,
Since now I walk in the light.
This lantern I'll keep and adore,
With its brilliance shining so bright.
No longer will I be afraid,
Of the evil that lurks out there;
For this lantern is specially made -
Its radiance shine everywhere!
Life itself spring from the flame;
Its wonders are innumerous.
This lantern even has a name -
The precious name of Jesus!
