WE CAN LEARN FROM OUR PETS

By Julie A. Dawes

Many of you, I'm sure, have pets in your care.  We, ourselves, have a dog and three cats.
It occurred to me one day as I watched our dog leap with joy upon our return, just how much they depend on us for their livelihood.
I again marveled at the idea when I saw our cat wait patiently by her food dish to be fed.
I wondered if it ever occurred to them that we might not have food or would never return when we left the house.
It seems they have complete trust in us to take care of them, even though they know not where their food comes from or what tomorrow will bring.  They have no worries or fears.
Something sounded very familiar about that thought.  Then I realized where I heard it before.  This is what the Bible tells us we should do!  Just as our precious pets depend on us to meet their needs, we too, should depend on our Father to meet ours.
If you're anything like me, not worrying seems next to impossible. However, God has shown me through our pets that it is possible.
They don't have any worries, they just put their trust in us. If they can do it, then I should be able to - especially since God is much more trustworthy than I!
I was again reminded of our dependence upon God when trying to get burdocks out of our dog's tail.
After what seemed like a lengthy wrestling match, I finally said, "Be still and let me do the work.  You're making a bigger mess of things!"
Once again, I had repeated something out of the Bible.  Even though the words came out of my own mouth, it was as though God was saying those words to me.
I know I give God many wrestling matches when trying to work out my own circumstances.  I make it difficult for Him to show me that He is able.  All He wants me to do is enjoy life and leave the rest up to Him.
Giving in to our fears and worries could only lead to our own destruction.  Not only does it make us miserable, but it hinders God in granting us the blessings He so wants to give us.
I have learned many lessons by observing our pets. There are   so many ways in which the relationship between pets and their masters are very similar to the relationship man has with God.
